WestJet extends top-tier status for Platinum, Gold and Silver members

September 04, 2020

WestJet understands that COVID-19 and ongoing travel restrictions are continuing to impact members’ ability to achieve or retain top-tier status with WestJet Rewards. Effective September 4, 2020, they are making the following changes to provide greater certainty and time for their members:

  1. Extending Platinum, Gold and Silver status and tier benefits to December 31, 2021. This includes available lounge and seat selection vouchers issued with the tier. These changes will be reflected in members’ accounts by September 30, 2020.
  2. Extending current qualifying periods for all members, including those in the Teal tier, to December 31, 2021 to align to the calendar year and provide more time to achieve or retain status. All accounts will be updated by October 31, 2020.
  3. The qualifying spend members have already earned in their current period will remain in their accounts, giving them a head start to build their spend over the next 16 months. Along the way, there will be opportunities to earn qualifying spend faster.
  4. Members need only meet the qualifying spend requirements to achieve or retain top-tier status: $3000 for Silver, $5000 for Gold, or $8000 for Platinum.  There are no complex formulas involving miles travelled or segments flown, as with many other programs.

These changes are being made with members in mind, both now and in the future, as WestJet transitions to a qualifying year based on the standard calendar year for all members, starting on January 1, 2022.

WestJet will share further announcements of new WestJet Rewards features in the coming months.
